Stephen Murray Update 5/7/07

Postby grotbags » Fri Jul 06, 2007 2:52 am

Alright, Martin flew back to the UK last night and has asked me to take over the updates until he returns.
Some good news yesterday, the hospital changed Stephen's medication and the nightmares and hallucinations he was having have since gone away. His temperature fluctuated yesterday peaking at 103 but is now back down to just below 101. The hospital have explained that this is to be expected and we're hoping that it will return to a more normal level.
We appreciate that a lot of you are worried about the pneumonia but this is almost par for the course and the fact that the hospital caught it early and are treating it with anti-biotics can only be a good thing.
Although Stephen's visitors are restricted to family, we decided to make an exception when Travis Pastrana dropped in 10 minutes after Martin left for England.(unlucky Muzz) This was a huge boost for Stephen and definatlty put a smile on his face.
Today has been a quiet, settled day of rest, which is greatly needed since he is still in critical condition. Melissa has been by his side all day while Cynthia and I have been in meetings for 7 hours with various organisations relating to rehab.
Please keep your E mails coming as they are a great source of support to Stephen and his family alike. The amount of concern and support from everyone has been nothing short of phenomenal and is very much appreciated.
Believe.

Thanks for this update, so many of us are checking this site several times each day to see if there is any good news. A quiet day of rest and a fever down a couple of degrees is good news.
Please let Stephen, Melissa and my Auntie Cynthia know that I'm thinking of them so often, and praying for their strength to get through each half hour.
Stephen, as I have said before, you are from good Geordie stock my man, and as Granma says, we Geordies are a tough bunch, you more than most. Stay focussed on each small step of progress as it's all part of the biggest step of your recovery. To coin a cliche which is VERY applicable in this case "IF ANYONE CAN DO THIS, YOU CAN!"
I'm so comforted to see how many people are rallying around you, worldwide. It's great to see how you have touched many lives with your friendly and back to basics personality.
Do you remember when we went on holidays in Menorca? You were too scared to go on the waterslides and you used to go off by yourself and jump on the bouncy castles while Martin and I worked to see who could go faster down the slides!!! Then one day I convinced you to come with me, that I would go slowly. You did, it was so cute, we inched our way down the slide the first time and built up to going a little faster from there! How far you are from that little scaredy cat!
Then I was remembering way back when after we returned from our holiday in Menorca and some big boys were riding bikes in front of Polden Crescent. You were just dying to get on one of their bikes and jump the curbs and the ramp the built. Your mom and dad were hesitant about letting you. Next thing we saw from the living room window, there you were on one of the bikes! It was this Matthew dude's 10 speed, it was SO big for you, he was 10, you only 5. And you did it! Even from then it was obvious from there that you had strong determination, and big talent.
I laugh looking back on these nice memories, Stephen, I hope it brings you a chuckle too.
Love and hugs big guy,
See you in a couple of weeks,
Melanie

Good to hear some reassurance from the doctors, Paul, with regard to the fact that the pneumonia is almost expected in cases like Stephen's - let's hope those antibiotics do their job as quickly as possible. Glad to hear he had a restful day - so important in the road to recovery. Hope all went successfully at the meetings you and Cynthia attended regarding the rehab. Love to the boy as ever from Shirley, Ross and Lindsey xxxxx

A month ago, TJ and I were just talking about how strong you are and how you always give 100%. No matter what you've been faced with, you will always give your best and you will always succeed.

Take everything 1 step at a time and know you have all of us supporting you each step of the way.

Love ya man.

Hey Paul,
Bernie here, I spoke to Neal and he told me you were heading over, nice job man, youre a true friend to a great guy who's in need.

Good to hear the news man, was concerned about the pneumonia, but hearing its normal puts minds at rest. The body does have some serious self defence mechanisms.
Everybody here (London) is concerned, 16yr. old riders down the park to old farts like me. Stephen has advanced the sport so far- he is in everybodys minds.
Tell Stephen that I'm thinking of him- there is a hell of a lot of people over here wishing him better. And STILL believing.

Stay strong Steven.

Very good news. Stephen, you are in my thoughts at all times. I am spendinfg alot of time on the lake at work with alot time to think and I can honestly say most of it is thinking of you. I can remember the last time I was in England when you were 5 and you and martin fighting over who's bedroom I would sleep in. You won the fight because you smart enough to tell Martin and I that I had already had a sleep over in Martin's room. I also remember your fearless attitude. I am 7 years older than you but we shared that bike your dad got for an entire summer. The weirdest thing is that it wasn't too small for me but was quite big on you but that certainly didn't matter to you.

I hope things only get better for you, I love You. Best wishes to the wife and kids as well.

All of your cousins in Kenora send you best wishes. I am updating Spencer regularly as he still doesn't have the internet.

Nice one Paul, thanks for the update, tell Stephen every one is pulling for him to get through this hard time.

You could always make him laugh by telling him all the mad stories of us growing up together but I suppose you have already bored him to death with them already!

Stay Strong
